What Are Eternity Rings?

What Are Eternity Rings?

Did you know that Marilyn Monroe chose to wear an eternity ring as her engagement ring & her wedding ring?

Eternity rings are a symbol of eternal love much like an engagement ring. Often used with diamonds, an eternity ring can equally feature any other gemstone.

Based on the symbol of infinity, the circle of shape of an eternity band historically represents the circle of life. Eternity rings have been around for over 4,000 years and used to be made of beads.

A full eternity ring is a never-ending circle of gemstones around the band.

Half eternity rings have a row of gemstones at the front & offer more comfort at the back.

One of the benefits of getting a half eternity ring is that you can get it resized much more easily later on. Full eternity rings can be resized but with added complications and as it often requires adding or removing a stone.

Setting options for eternity rings include bezel, claw, bar, grain & channel. Claw set eternity rings are the most popular however because they maximise the light that can pass through the stones, meaning optimal brilliance.

Eternity rings are traditionally given to mark an important milestone in your relationship.

Common questions about eternity rings are which finger do you wear an eternity ring on & in what order with your engagement & wedding ring?

Traditionally, you wear your wedding ring first, then your engagement ring & finally your eternity ring.

When it comes down to it, it’s totally up to you. Some people opt to wear their eternity ring on their right hand.

What is the difference between a promise ring and an eternity ring?

Promise rings are usually given before a marriage, almost as a sign of what’s to come & often regarded as a symbol of commitment. They are a symbol of love and respect. Whereas eternity rings are given after a marriage, sometimes as an anniversary gift or to mark a special occasion.

Sometimes promise rings are given to friends or family instead of given in romantic relationships & can be worn on any finger.

In terms of appearance a promise ring may have a  feature gemstone rather than the circular design of an eternity ring.
